My Response to a NBC Sports Column titled: "Another Knucklehead in the NFL"
This is why I don't listen to (white) sports talk radio. This reason and many others before it. By the way, besides reading the local fishwrap, any long conversations as to the Judge knocking back a few of the charges against Bonds? No. Why? Because they got all the sensationalism out of it and already sullied the man up. Oh, by the way, We both know that pitchers by percentage were found to have used "steroids" than batters. Any chance of hearing that on Rome show or any other local/affiliated white sports talk show? No. Why? Because the steroid witch hunt gave up a few good ol' boys the white media liked. If they were told one year earlier, they would have hung up on callers, dismissed e-mails and poo poo'ed the thought or possibility of a Roger Clemons using 'roids.
And now this, the writer is angry and looking for this player to be done in football and possibly sent to jail, because he was carrying an unregistered weapon. Please! Again, about this time, they, the white media, was saying the death of Washington Redskin, Safety Sean Taylor, "was live by the gun, die by the gun" "You can take the boy out of the hood, but not the hood out of the boy" and when it was discovered that this man was shot in his home with his baby daughter and fiancé' in the house. Oh it's a tragedy and they want to talk about [black] athletes being targets.
So having said that, what the hell do you think Plaxico Burress was carrying a peacemaker for! Did the writer let the readers know that Plaxico's teammate Steve Smith (USC) was robbed at gun-point at his house!!? Or A few weeks ago, a football player who was present when Darrent Smith, another athlete was gunned down in 2007, was found in an alley beaten and robbed of his possessions? Nope. How about basketball players being car jacked and robbed in their homes..Nothing. But Burress is stupid for carrying something that can save his life. Yeah, he Barney Fife'ed it and shot himself and it would have been tragic if he would have died and possibly killed someone else.
But I'm assuming, the same person would be thinking, "You can take the boy out of the hood, but not the hood out of the boy" if Burress would have been killed by the "same boy in the same hood." Then again he would have changed the channel or skipped the news page.
