The NFL Finally Gets It Right...

While the country is being ripped in regard to what discipline if any, should happen to Don Imus. The NFL cut through all that rigamonroe and just put the smack down on two of it's players. Titan's defensive back, Pac-man Jones and Bengals wide receiver, Chris Henry received hefty suspensions for their off the field incidents. Please place emphasis on the word, "Incidents," cause each player has had numerous visitations in their respective city's police department. In Jones' part, he made a visit to the Las Vegas Police Department to answer questions in regard to how a bouncer at a strip club ended up paralyzed from what some witnesses say, that Jones was the instigator of the incident. For those out of loop, During NBA All Star Weekend, Jones was at strip club and did something called, "making it rain." It's an act done by visitor, in which he throws a huge amount of cash on the stripper's platform. In turn the stripper continues to perform her act, but this time, and unknowingly of the term, the stripper thought she hit the jackpot and picked up the money. Being insulted and infuriated, Jones yelled some expletives, similiar to what Don Imus is being suspended for and a fight, well, who are we fooling, someone ran to the car and got their gun and shot up the place. That someone was in Jones group. That last incident was the latest and probably not the last incident for Jones, so for this action and past incidents in which Jones was either involved with or by himself, the NFL told Pac Man to take the year off and while off perform some duties not involving himself, a police-officer, a orange jumpsuit, a judge or a defense lawyer. But positive things to get himself together. Now can he? I hope so, he's a young player and undoubtedly has some growing up to do. Unfortunately, he won't do it on the football field.

Next individual to be handed a "sit out" card, was wide receiver, Chris Henry. Henry has been arrested 14 times! ranging from driving without a license to assault. This young man has been told sit out for 8 games, which I disagree with. He should sit out for at least two years. Which brings me to this, Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was suspended for a whole year for breaking league drug rules. This was after he served a four game suspension for the same infraction. So multiple infractions, ahhhh I believe three for Williams equals a total of twenty games. Then why not hit Jones and Henry with two or three year suspensions or outright banishment?

The NFL commissioner was right, "It's a privilege to play in the NFL..Not a right"

Team Reaction:

Tennessee Titans -

Statement From Titans Owner Bud Adams on Jones Suspension:

Statement quote: "Unfortunately this decision does not end our deliberations about this player for our team. We will need assurances from the player on a number of issues before we are comfortable having him return to the team. Until we see a change in behavior through his actions and until he shows the ability to avoid controversy off the field, we will move forward with the possibility that he may not return to this team."

Cinncinati Bengals:

Team Reaction/Comments: “We support the Commissioner’s ruling, and while we regret the circumstances that called for it, it’s good for both Chris and the Bengals to have the matter resolved. Our team will move forward, and now it is up to Chris to acquire a more mature understanding of his responsibilities as a player for the Bengals and a representative of the NFL.”
